Auburn Art And College Memories

Auburn Art And College Memories

I recently completed a piece of Auburn art that has gotten way more attention than I honestly expected. I mean, every artist hopes a piece or two of their art gets a lot of notice but it doesn’t happen as often as many of us would hope. I can’t tell you how many artists I hear the same story from. You complete a new piece, you’re over the moon with how much you love it, and you share it expecting everyone to have the same reaction to it. Instead, you hear the hum of crickets chirping.

Okay, I exaggerate just a little. Usually I...Read More

Wacom Alternative for The Intuos Pro

If you follow my art blog and you’re also an artist or aspiring artist, you may have read my recent post about my experience with the XP-Pen Artist 16, which is essentially a Wacom Alternative for the Cintiq line of display tablets for graphic artists. I’m still enjoying my Artist 16. In fact, I may have another post on that subject soon, but I have to admit I was missing my old Wacom Intuos Pro sometimes. There are times when I just simply don’t need the precision of a display tablet. And if I’m honest maybe also there’s a part of me that is resistant to change. I am enjoying the Artist 16, but some of the time, I want something familiar.

The problem with...Read More

Art By The Light Of The Moon

Art By The Light Of The Moon

Only a handful of weeks ago, I finished a new piece of art that included a female silhouette and the blazing sun. As you’ll read there, it was kind of an accidental piece of art which started as a backdrop for the Desiderata poem. Ironically or not, the Desiderata print has proved to be much more popular! I guess a strong image always helps tell a story! Nonetheless, as soon as I finished that “Child Of The Universe” image with the blazing sun, I thought I should have a yin and a yang and do the moon as well.

After all the sun and moon probably...Read More

Initial Thoughts About the XP-Pen Artist 16

Initial Thoughts About the XP-Pen Artist 16

Just thought I’d share my initial thoughts about the XP-Pen Artist 16 – a Wacom Cintiq Alternative now that I’ve actually sat down and worked with it. But I think a little background is in order first.

I’ve used a Wacom Intuos Pro for the past three years. I really cut my teeth on it artistically. I had briefly tried another...Read More

Accidental Social Media Tribute Flag for the Manchester Attack

The word I keep finding myself using today is surreal. And it’s the only appropriate word I can come up with. How does some random guy from a small town in Georgia end up in the news following a terror attack without even being there? In my case it was because a piece of art I created four years ago caught fire as a social media tribute flag.

Last night I...Read More

Spiritual Artwork Print - Child Of The Universe

This new spiritual artwork print is a perfect example of how often I start one thing and find unexpected inspiration for something else. My latest piece was originally meant to be just a backdrop behind the text for Max Ehrmann’s poem Desiderata. I recently had someone ask...Read More

Hot Air Balloon Nursery Art Print

I admit I struggle sometime explaining where some of my art comes from, such is the case with this hot air balloon nursery art print. You see, in the strictest sense, I’m not describing a room where this would fit but the actual subject or what it depicts. Take a look! This was a concept that I had rolling...Read More

Eiffel Tower Romance Painting - Latin Dance Art Print

This idea for this Eiffel Tower romance painting came to me because of the film title “Last Tango In Paris.” Now I have to admit, that title the full extent of what I knew about the It was a film that was already ancient history by the time I was even old enough to see it. I guess in essence I created my own...Read More

Cool Irish Art - Dublin In The Rain

I really wanted to share my latest piece of Irish art, and this is a piece I think is quite cool. Now it should go without saying that I’m proud of all my artwork. If I share something for public consumption, I’m happy with how it turned out, but every so often I...Read More

Affordable Art Secrets

As an artist, one of the things I hear quite often is “I wish I could afford one of your prints.” If I had a penny for every time… And believe me, as much as I wish I was independently wealthy, it’s a lament I understand. That’s why I decided to...Read More

The Sacred World - New Surreal Art Plus A Special Discount

I'm sure there are many old friends out there who would be a bit surprised to see me wander down the woodland path towards fantasy and surreal art. Even though my artwork often has a bit of a fanciful air to it, my images have usually featured concrete places where you could go... Read More

What It Means to Be an Artist

Why do some photographers not consider themselves artists?

This is seriously a question that haunts me some days. If I had a nickle for every time I encountered a photographer in various art forums who wanted to be strictly styled as a photographer rather than an artist. Well, I wouldn't be wealthy, but I certainly could afford a nice trip somewhere!

Considering how long photography has fought for a place at the artistic table, I'm often amazed when I ...Read More

UK Print Partner And Other News

Have you ever noticed how sometimes things have a way of working themselves out? The Price Of Art Merchandise

This is a subject for both the art-lovers and the art-makers out there. It's a topic which I'd say I ruminate on at least annually, and that's whether or not to offer art merchandise in addition to prints.

Once upon a time, I was more active on...Read More

Starry Night Skies Over The Beach At Tybee Island

It's not often that I can say one of my pieces was the stuff of dreams, but it seems my most recent artwork falls into that ethereal camp.

I woke up in the middle of the night with the clearest image in my mind of the night sky over the pier at the beach on Tybee Island. Considering how fully asleep I had been it was ...Read More

Throw Pillows Reviewed

Around a year ago give or take, one of the various print on demand companies I use started offering throw pillows. It wasn't really a product I ever thought of offering but I decided to give it a go. Since then, one by one, each POD seems to be adding them to their offerings and I've had some repeat buyers. So, when my main site started offering them, curiosity finally got the better of me and I decided to get .....Read More

Creating Art - Behind My Process

When I share my work online, I frequently get comments along the lines of 'beautiful painting!' In fact, it's become so frequent I've gotten to the point where I simply say thanks. That facile acknowledgement is because my process of creating art lies in some netherworld between photography and painting and trying to explain that to the casual observer is no easy task. In fact, I've thought of writing something on the subject for quite some time and.....Read More
